Anyway, right after this small opening of the opening, the song will go over a montage of a woman setting up the dinner table and cooking food, switching back and forth between the two aspects of a home dinner date. Again, this sequence will appear like an extremely regular set of actions to occur UNTIL the ease of the opening is interrupted by a brief flashback sequence. The woman will be slicing a fruit or vegetable (we're still unsure which type) and a piece will fall to the floor. When she reaches down and picks it up, the knife still in her hand, everything about the environment will shift. The knife and woman's hand/arm will be covered in blood as will the floor, the source of it being shown as a man's dead body on the floor in front of her as the same music playing being now distorted will add to the flashback's tension. The scene will transition back to the normal setting it was in before and the woman will throw away the piece of fruit and inside the trashcan, the audience will be able to see bloody cleaning gloves and even more bloody towels laying inside. She will drop the chopped pieces of fruit into a bowl and place it on the table when her phone suddenly buzzes. She will then pull out her phone to see she received a text from someone named Jackson, reading, "Hey Elena, I'm outside." Below the most recent text, which is Jackson, will be several other men whose last texts are stating their arrival at Elena's home. For example, "i'm here," "just got here," "walking up to your door," etc. After seeing that Elena has met with several men before and all of their last texts have been from before entering her home, the audience will be able to tell that Elena is a serial killer.

Transitioning to a Portfolio Project
To be introduced a project that I'm given two months to work on, I must admit it's definitely a type of assignment I'm never received before and will have to get used to. This means I will have to spend all the time I am given to work on this project wisely and ensure I reach the requirements listed for it.
The first step to this project is to figure out what type of opening I want for my film. I am working with two partners for this project but we all agreed we want our opening to be instantly attention-hooking (as anyone would want to) but more specifically, mystery. We'll figure out the details by looking at the Nearpod on film openings and incorporating all the best parts of an opening into making a great one.
While we pitched a few ideas in class when we had some minutes available, we are still far from choosing on even a concept of an opening. We have lots of work to do and we'll work together by putting together our opinions, ideas, influences, and brainstorming. We're unsure whether we will be coming up with the name before or after coming up with the planned-out film opening but that's only one of our many unanswered questions for the making of this project. Hopefully in the next upcoming week, we will have a lot more confirmed and a lot less to figure out.

Genre Research for Portfolio
I personally love when the opening of a film is suspenseful and instantly makes the viewer start asking questions. I can't think of genres that apply these characteristics better than my favorites: thriller and mystery.
While thrillers are commonly associated with dark plots and terrifying visuals, they're not exactly "scary" movies but more suspenseful ones that rely on building tension. Suspense and tension are two important factors for this genre because they are used to create a feeling of unease and anxiety and usually help lead up to a plot twist. One of my favorite thriller movies that I've watched recently was Trap (2024), a movie set in the perspective of a serial killer with his daughter at a concert surrounded by police officers who are searching for him. The film relied heavily on building tension among the viewers and keeping them on the edge of their seats. It didn't contain any popcorn-spilling jump scares but it made the viewers uncomfortable in other ways using scenes of the main character in risky situations where he's moments and/or inches away from being caught. (Example)
Mystery are one of the most interesting genres that can hook a viewer's attention in an instant. The reason this type of genre is so attention-grabbing is because there is always a question that the film revolves around. A film I watched two years ago after reading the book for the film, No Exit (2022), is a great example of mystery as the "question" of the film regards a little girl in the back of a van at a rest stop in the middle of a snowstorm. While this mystery's first question is answered early into the film, there were several more questions/mysteries that came afterwards and continued to keep the viewers hooked. (Example)
